Reminders:

  • Bring a spiral bound notebook/notebook paper and pens/pencils to class each day.

Directions:

  1. Take out your notebook/paper and something to write with.

7:30-8:10: Vocabulary

8:10-8:30: Sci-Fi Independent Reading
  • Reading quietly .
  • As you read, keep track of the elements of science fiction in the novel in Cornell Note style

8:30-8:50: Academic Vocabulary
  • Work alone or in pairs to match the 10 words to their definitions.
  • Create vocabulary circles for the 10 words in your own notebook (these words are generated at random, so if repeats come up, you don't need to make a 2nd Vocabulary Circle--however, by the end of the 2nd week you need to have all 55 Vocabulary Circles).
  • Remember to keep ALL of your vocabulary circles--all tests/quizzes are cumulative.
  • Randomly chosen 10 of the 55 Academic Vocabulary words

8:50-9:55: Night Project Info and Night Reading

  • Night Video
  • Reading: Follow along with sound recording. Maintain your dialectical journal. You need 20 entries and we will be reading this book over 9 days (so you need to have two entries each day)

10:10-10:40: Vocabulary
  • Chapter 20 Vocabulary (Review)
  • Chapter 21 Vocabulary (new vocabulary circles, then complete the handout).
  • Copy the vocabulary words and definitions into your notebooks. Leave a section of your notebook for your vocabulary list. Vocabulary tests/quizzes will be cumulative (after week one, your test will be on Chapters 14-21, after week two your test will be on chapters 14-27 or 28)

  • Create a vocabulary circle for each vocabulary word. Due tomorrow, but you have some time to begin them now. (Wasting time is not allowed)

11:10-11:25: Presentation Prep/ Begin Presentations
  • Students take out a sheet of paper and create an evaluation sheet. You will evaluate each presentation:

  • Write each student's name. Rating is easy as 1, 2, 3.
  • Do not talk or disrupt each others presentations in any way (letters of apology).

11:25-12:30: Computer Lab 703
  • PRESENTATIONS today! (short--2-3 minutes each)

  • You have 20 minutes to finish up your presentation or...
  • Test on Chapters 14-21 on Monday! (click the link to study the test)


  • Each topic needs at least one slide. You need 7 to 12 slides. Your slides will be judged based on: Visual Appeal, Writing Style, Creativity, Convincing, Elements of Speech (i.e., the presenter's speaking skills).
