Reminders:

  • Bring a spiral bound notebook/notebook paper and pens/pencils to class each day.

Directions:

  1. Take out your notebook/paper and something to write with.
  2. Copy today's learning objectives and HW.

  • Present a dialectical journal based on Night.
  • Present arguments for/against technology.
  • Study a film's message concerning victimization during the holocaust.

7:30-7:45: Vocabulary Review

7:40-8:10: Sci-Fi Independent Reading
  • Reading quietly .
  • As you read, keep track of the elements of science fiction in the novel in Cornell Note style

8:10-8:20: Academic Vocabulary
  • Work alone or in pairs to match the 10 words to their definitions.
  • Create vocabulary circles for the 10 words in your own notebook (these words are generated at random, so if repeats come up, you don't need to make a 2nd Vocabulary Circle--however, by the end of the 2nd week you need to have all 55 Vocabulary Circles).
  • Remember to keep ALL of your vocabulary circles--all tests/quizzes are cumulative.
  • Randomly chosen 10 of the 55 Academic Vocabulary words

8:20-9:00: Night Dialectical Journal Presentations
  • Students briefly present their work and describe how they created it.
  • Students read the most memorable quotation they responded to.

  • Students share their journals afterward--gallery walk.

9:00-9:20: Journal Entry 11

9:20-9:55: Journal Cover
  • Design and create a journal cover to go on the top of your journal entries when you turn them in tomorrow.
  • The cover must include your name, the name of the course, and the titles of our two main units (Victimization and Science Fiction)
  • The cover must also include images (hand drawn or printed from the computer) related to our units of study.

10:10-10:25: Root Word Review

10:25-11:25: Technology Essay Presentations
  • Students evaluate presentations.

11:25-12:25: Film As Literature

If time permits: Vocabulary Review
